
Situated at around 2400 km from the East coast of the African Continent, Mauritius is an independent country of some 1.2 million inhabitants.
Of volcanic origin, the island covers a surface of around 1865 Sq. Km and is surrounded by coral reefs.
Summer lasts from October to April while winter is from May to September, with temperatures varying between 25 and 31 degrees celcius in Summer and between 19 and 25 degrees celcius in Winter.
The local currency is the Mauritian Rupee, with each ruppee being divided into 100 cents. Bank notes are available in denominations of 25, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 rupees.
Both Travellers Cheques and Credit Cards are accepted in most shops, restaurants, etc...

Languages spoken are mainly English, French and Creole (a local dialect which is a mixture of several languages including French and English); some Mauritians also speak other languages like German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Hindi, etc...
